However, popular exhibitions and performances—particularly at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (03), Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) (06), and other popular venues—may sell out on weekends and public holidays. We recommend booking online in advance.
Yes — several venues have free admission for all visitors, including Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo (TOKAS Hongo) (07), Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery (08), and Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] (11). Tokyo's train and subway network is a convenient and reliable way to travel between venues. Most of the 11 venues are within walking distance of a station, while Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is about a 5-minute bus ride from the nearest station. An IC travel card is recommended—it works on JR lines, subways, most bus routes, and can also be used at many convenience stores and vending machines.
Parking availability varies by venue. Edo-Tokyo Museum (01), Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum (04), Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (05), and Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) (06) offer accessible parking. Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] (11) and Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery (08) have no on-site parking. Public parking in central Tokyo is limited and can be expensive, so traveling by train and subway is recommended. For details, please check each venue's official website.
The Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum (02) is located in Koganei, west of central Tokyo, within Koganei Park. From Shinjuku Station, take the JR Chuo Line to Musashi-Koganei Station (about 35 minutes), then take a bus to the museum (about 5 minutes). Allow extra travel time when planning your day.

The Tokyo Museum Grutto Pass 2026 is a QR-code ticket that includes free admission and discount coupons for 107 museums, art museums, gardens, and other cultural facilities in the Tokyo area. It can be used at selected venues featured in this website. Valid for 2 months from first use.
The pass costs ¥2,500 (adults only). It is available as a digital QR-code e-ticket or a physical card. Purchase online, at participating museums and facilities, or at selected tourist information centers in Tokyo. If you plan to visit several paid venues, the pass often offers good value.

Photography rules vary by venue and exhibition. Some permanent collection galleries permit photography without flash, while special exhibitions often prohibit photography. Look for camera-icon signage at each gallery entrance, or ask a staff member.
Storage facilities vary by venue. Many venues provide coin-operated lockers or a cloakroom near the entrance. Some venues may require large bags and backpacks to be stored before entering gallery spaces. Coin-operated lockers are also available at many nearby train stations for visitors travelling with luggage.
Many museums and cultural facilities close on Mondays, or on the following Tuesday when Monday is a public holiday. Some venues may also close during exhibition changeover periods.
