About

Opened in October 1990 and renovated in 2012, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre is Tokyo’s flagship large-scale performing arts complex—presenting world-class classical music, theater, opera, and dance in Ikebukuro’s cultural heart.

The venue has one concert hall, three theaters for drama and dance, and four galleries. Its 28-meter-high atrium, extending from B1 to the fifth floor, creates a spacious, open atmosphere. The 1,999-seat Concert Hall houses one of the world’s largest pipe organs.

Highlights for Visitors

  • World's largest-class pipe organ — iconic Concert Hall centerpiece
  • 4 performance halls — from the 1,999-seat Concert Hall, dedicated to classical music, to smaller theaters
  • 28-metre sky-lit atrium — spectacular architectural landmark
  • Pipe Organ Concerts — lunchtime and nighttime concert series
  • Enjoy organ recitals that showcase the theater's celebrated organ, along with piano recitals, piano duo concerts, and orchestral concerts from Japan and abroad. See the full schedule on the website.
  • Beyond programs in the halls and theaters, the venue also makes active use of its galleries and studios, offering programs for children, talent-development programs, and social inclusion programs.
